Were you much exposed to the filmi mahaul?
Oh, I was allowed to be full filmy.
It wasn't that we weren't allowed to go on the sets. It's just that we
had a normal routine of school and play. After school my sister and I preferred
to play with our friends, then do our tuitions and homework, rather than
go on my dad's sets.
I did my schooling in Bombay Scottish
till Class 10. Then I did two years in H.R College. Then I went to the
School Of Visual Arts in New York and the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film
Institute.

Ranbir Kapoor - I was offered many
films while I was in America
“I was offered many films while I was
in America. I saw ‘Devdas’ during that time and instantly became Sanjayji’s
(Bhansali) fan. I set an agenda for myself that I would assist Sanjayji
and learn, during which he’d also notice me and cast me in his film eventually.
The experience I’ve gained working with Sanjayji is like having worked
in 10 films.”
Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, the
lead pair of the much-awaited film 'Saawariya', won the hearts of many
as they danced and interacted with people on reality dance show 'Jhalak
Dikhla Ja'.
'Both the kids just won over everyone
with their down-to-earth nature. Everyone from the audience to the contestants
to the judges just kept looking at Ranbir and Sonam affectionately all
the while that they were there,' said a source in Sony TV, which organises
the dance competition.
On rating himself
“I’m critical about my performance.
I’ve a long way to go. I would give myself a 6/10. Once while on my way
for a song shoot, I was nervous. So I messaged dad (Rishi Kapoor). He replied,
‘What are you nervous about? You’re a Kapoor. Just do it with passion and
have fun’. That boosted my confidence.” |
Do you dream a lot?
Dreamers are in constant denial. They
won't accept they're dreamers…To me working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali
is a dream come true. But I realize in some ways I achieved this dream
too easily. If I had worked outside, and then earned my right to work with
one of the country's best filmmakers maybe I'd realize his worth more.
Right now, we are more like friends.
And I don't feel I am working with THE
Sanjay Leela Bhansali. We share a father-son bonding. He has done for me
what my own father would have done, maybe more.
On guru Sanjay
“Sanjayji has taught me so much. So
even if he yelled at me, it’s okay. He has all the right to shout at me
and Sonam (Kapoor, co-star). He’s used so many tools to bring us into the
frame of mind of the characters. For me Sanjay’s work is beyond ratings.
You cannot rate your guru. He’s like my godfather. If your guru pays you
a compliment, it’s hard to digest.”
On being a Kapoor
“There is a lot of responsibility on
me being a Kapoor. I was born with a legacy and have to take it forward.”
On being close to Sonam
“We have been childhood friends. I
love her to death and she loves me to death too.”
Did you have friends outside the film industry?
All my friends were from within the
industry. We've all grown up together and are striving to make a place
in the industry, like me. There's Siddharth Anand, Rohit Dhawan, etc. |
