Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s
‘Saawariya’
Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor
are in news not for their reel romance this time, instead there are speculations
about the budding real romance between the two of them.
Rumour mills are working
over time, the buzz being that Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam are apparently dating
each other. Though Saawariya could not create those ripples that it was
expected to, still it seems that their combination is here to stay; since
both have been pretty successful in making their individual marks. Their
personal camaraderie may work out well for the both of them.
According to sources,
their romance began during the making of the movie - both were single and
ready to mingle.
Ranbir Kapoor:
"Play gay? Why not? I'd
love to play any character that takes me into unexplored parts of my psyche.
But first let me serenade all these lovely ladies in our movies. "
Muzamil Ibrahim:
"Irrfan is a vert talented
actor. He knows his job. The fun part of acting is you can become anyone
you want. I don't mind playing a gay character at all. "
Manoj Bajpai:
"I'd love to play a gay
character if it's written well and it's part of a very good script. "
Ravi Kissan:
"It's a big challenge
for a straight guy to play gay. I'd love to play a gay character. I used
to play Sita in the stage shows of Ramleela back home in Jaunpur.
Vinay Pathak:
"Excitement of portraying
any character lies in the strength of the character's graph and progression
vis a vis the plot and its conflicts. How a character helps a narrative
grow is what interests me the most. The cast's sexual orientation and other
factors are all secondary. "
Sammir Dattani:
" I must admit playing
one makes me slightly uncomfortable at this stage of my career when I'm
still finding my bearings. For my new film Dhoom Dhadaka I had to get into
drag and I was very uneasy.
It took Tom Hanks and
Irrfan years before they came to Philadelphia and Migration. I need to
be experienced as an actor before I attempt a character so distanced from
me. "
Akshaye Khanna:
"It would depend entirely
on the script. "
Rohit Roy:
Playing gay? I don't
mind at all. But it depends on the film and its director's intentions and
most importantly how his sexual preference effects the film and his character. If
homosexuality is intrinsic to the narrative and the director possesses
the sensibilities of Mira Nair or Aparna Sen I'd surely play gay.But I'd
never play gay to titillate, invoke senseless mirth or to ridicule the
gay community. My character's sexuality would have to drive the choices
he makes in life which in turn takes the picture forward.
Tusshar:
"I'd play gay only if
the director has the class and sensitivity to handle such a portrayal without
making it caricatural or offensive.
Neil Mathur:
"Well, It's a character
and we are actors. So if the script demands it, why not?
Nakul Vaid:
"I've no issues playing
gay. Doing any character dpends on how deep you can explore it and portray
it convincingly for yourself and the audience. The character's sexual preference
is secondary…unless it's forced into the script, Then I'll have nothing
to do with it.
Aseem Merchant:
"I've always been intrigued
by the gay community. I'd love to portray a gay character. "
Prashant Raj:
"I don't think I'd do
justice to a role like that. My structure and build might not be conducive
to playing such a role. "
Anupam Kher:
"Playing gay is nothing
new to me. I did it years ago in Rahul Rawail's Mast Kalandar and David
Dhawan's Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge.
Iqbal Khan:
"If the role is interesting
I can even play a lamp post."
Arshad Warsi:
"I'd willingly play a
gay character. It will be a new challenge to me as an actor. "
Mohit Ahlawat:
"For me it's be difficult
to play gay as I won't be able to identify with such a character. Sorry,
I can't play a role I'm so far removed from. But I respect an actor like
Irrfan or Sanjay Suri who can. "
Aryan Vaid:
"Gay? Sure! For a good
film, I would. But I'd hate to play the farcical effeminate gay stereotype.
That's just a plain mockery of a sensitive and vital community. But something
like Brokeback Mountain? Any day.
Anuj Sawhney:
"If heroes can play grey
characters, I guess it proves the walls between 'this' side and 'that'
are breaking. It's up to an actor's individual craft and study of the character
to portray a character in a way that leaves a lasting impression. " Sharman
