which became a hit, and her sizzling dance number to the song "Lekar hum" brought her so much attention that she was immediately elevated to heroine roles again. In most of the films she appeared Neetu was cast as the fun-loving daughter or the 'optimistic' or 'lively' girlfriend. She was buxom. She danced with and cajoled all the top young stars of her day, especially Rishi Kapoor with whom she appeared in half a dozen films. On film and off Neetu and Rishi (son of Raj Kapoor) romanced each other. This romance led to the nuptials of the couple, when in 1979 after a much publicized engagement that was the talk of Bollywood, they were married. Neetu was 21 at that time. She was at the top of her career, having been nominated for a Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actress for Kaala Pathar (1979)[1], but she retired. At that time it was customary for actresses married to the famous Kapoor family to retire after marriage and Neetu left films. Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor have two children. Riddhima their daughter is a fashion designer and recently married to a Delhi based industrialist called Bharat Sahni. Their son Ranbir Kapoor is an upcoming film actor.

Ranbir seems closer to you than to his father. Isn't that the way it is with most children? Kids are a reflection of the mother. Both my kids are gentle and in school they never behaved like star-children. My husband's work was such that he was never home. He never knew about homework, PTA meetings and the kids' daily routines. We were together for lunch, dinner and vacation. Ranbir didn't get a chance to be close to his father until he assisted him when my husband directed Aa Ab Laut Chalen. Now that my husband has been home more often Ranbir has become close to him too. He's much closer to me. As an actress and mother do you feel Ranbir will match up to expectations? How can I say? I'm told he has a lot of grace and rhythm. And that he has a cute face and an athletic body. And he isn't a chaap of his dad either. It's impossible to imitate my husband. Johnny Lever once told Rishi he's the only actor he can't ape because Rishi is such a natural. I did 11 films with him, I should know.

While most actors in Bollywood adhere to a special diet to remain fit and looking good on screen, Ranbir Kapoor is different. Not because he doesn’t care about his health, but because he is usually the subject of his mom and actor Neetu Kapoor’s health and fitness experiments. Says Ranbir Kapoor, 
“Everyone knows that she is into fitness. She is very health conscious. But no one knows that her understanding of food and diets is beyond anything I have ever seen before. She can consult anyone, and she is the best in the world at it, because she is interested in it.

And she keeps trying out the experiments on me, so I get caught in the middle (laughs).” As for father, Rishi Kapoor, “He always dismisses any experiments when it comes to food. But my mom is my biggest fan, so I like being there for these tests,” says he

Neetu''s career took off with a bang in the Seventies as she breezed through her films like a breath of fresh air, mostly with Rishi Kapoor as her co star. The two ultimately got married and she retired from films permenantly.

Her image was always that of the fun living, cute girl next door. Some of her prominent films were Hawas, Khel Khel Main, Rafoo Chakkar, Zinda Dil, Deewar, Adalat, Shankar Dada Kabhie Kabhie, Doosra Aadmi, Priyatama, Parvarish, Amar Akbar Anthony, Yaarana, Kasme Vaade, The Great Gambler, Kala Pathar, and The Burning Train among many others. 

Though she did a maximum number of films with Rishi, he was not her only co star. She starred opposite heroes likes, Jeetendra, Randhir Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, and of course, Amitabh Bachchan. 

Even though most of her roles were of the light hearted type, she did attempt more serious roles like the one of the neglected wife in Doosra Aadmi, and, again of the wife in Priyatama opposite Jeetendra. These were two roles which revealed a different side to her. 

Despite her squeaky clean image, Neetu could match her co stars step for step in the routine Hindi film dances. She was a natural actress with a very endearing presence. It did not take her long to win the hearts of the audiences. When she married Rishi in 1979, she was only 21. Since then, she was happy to be a wife and mother. 

The best thing about Neetu is that despite touching the milestone of 50 today, she still looks as young and fresh as ever. Her magic still endures.
