 She is the daughter of Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor. Her Uncles are famous producer Boney Kapoor and actor Sanjay Kapoor. She will make her debut
with Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir Kapoor under Sanjay Leela Bhansali.The film
is titled Saawariya and is due for release in November 2007.
 Another passion of hers was, and is, dancing. She began learning Kathak since she was six and we recently saw how good she is at shaking her leg when she danced with Ranbir Kapoor on Jhalak Dikhlaja. It wasn’t until she went to work as an assistant director under Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Black that Sonam first thought of becoming an actress. It was the master filmmaker himself who planted the seed in her brain.
Later, when Bhansali told her he wanted her to be the female lead in Saawariya , Sonam could hardly believe it. Back then, she was a plump girl and weighed around 85 kg. But a film offer from Bhansali was impossible to resist. After discussing with her parents – Anil Kapoor and wife Sunita – Sonam took the decision. For many months she worked hard and groomed herself to be an actress. As for emoting her scenes, Sonam says she learned a great deal while working in the film. With the guidance of Bhansali, and her father, Sonam did not take long to become adept at the art of emoting. No doubt, she has inherited acting genes from her father. |

In a recent interview, Sonam Kapoor has revealed her admiration for Deepika Padukone who is thought to be Sonam’s competitor in the industry. It proves Sonam Kapoor’s maturity. |

Sonam Kapoor considers herself lucky even though her debut vehicle Saawariya slumped at the box office. And the reason for that is that the daughter of Anil Kapoor has bagged Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra ’s Delhi 6 as her next film. “I’m second time lucky. If I had to choose one filmmaker after Sanjay Leela Bhansali , I’d have chosen Rakeysh Mehra. I went beyond conventional definitions of the heroine in ‘Saawariya’. I hope to do the same in ‘Delhi 6?. It’s a great follow up,” says Sonam Asked about other offers, Sonam said: “They’re all coming to my father. He’s so proud of me. He keeps saying he never knew I could be such a capable actor and handle the media with dignity and grace.” While her father is scanning all the offers, Sonam is concentrating on “Delhi 6? that reportedly stars Abhishek Bachchan in the male lead. |
